Anastassiya Petrova
Anastassiya is a jazz pianist and organist from Kazakhstan. She is a highly
intuitive player and improviser, and her music is rooted in creating connection with
both fellow musicians and the audience. She plays a variety of styles, from original
jazz music to rock covers, and is exploring a variety of instruments, including
Hammond B-3 organ and synthesizers in addition to her native piano.
In her career, Anastassiya has been fortunate to share the stage with renowned musicians such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Ben Street, Adam Cruz, Patricia Perez, Marco Pignataro, Ellis Hall, Catherine Russell, Dave Liebman and others. She has performed at several notable international festivals, including Eurasia-2010 (Russia), Umbria Jazz Festival 2013 (Italy), Wave of Ideas 2015 (Bulgaria), Panama Percussion Festival (Panama), Beantown Jazz Festival (Boston, MA), Monterey Jazz Festival (Monterey, CA), and Costa Rica Jazz Festival (Costa Rica), and has also appeared on Kazakhstan's "The Voice" as well as TEDx. While still active as a performer, in 2019, Anastassiya was granted a full scholarship pursue graduate studies at the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston, where is being mentored by such renowned musicians as John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ben Street, George Garzone, and Adam Cruz. Through and outside the institute, Anastassiya is currently focused on developing personal projects in a variety of formats, including jazz piano trio, jazz quintet, and organ trio/quartet, which have allowed to give life to her own compositions, including both jazz and Kazakh folk songs. The 'Anastassiya Petrova Organ Quartet' is her newest project, debuting to critical acclaim at Monterey Jazz Festival 2018. She is currently working on recording her debut album "Invisible Women" dedicated to female homelessness and featuring organ/piano/drums as main instrumentation. |
