Clarence Palmer
While stationed in Japan with the United States Airforce, Clarence Palmer first heard the late great Jimmy Smith
playing this organ and the passion was born. Only able to tinkle on the piano, the desire to study the organ
became paramount. Through the years, Clarence was able to work with great jazz musicians such as Guitarists Grant
Green and and George Benson and Saxophonists Stanley Turrentine and Sunny Stitt.
Palmer is still playing the Hammond-B-3 organ as well as other keyboards, but spends more time concentrating on singing, which has become his new passion. Palmer May be the only one who is playing the organ and singing jazz to high standards as well as playing some of the popular songs today in a jazz idiom. Clarence Palmer, born in West Virginia, attended Princeton and Concord colleges. Clarence has a lot of country deep inside which allows him to sing country and western songs somewhat like the late Ray Charles and to have the smooth sound of Nat or Freddie Cole while also strike the songs of Tony Bennett, Mat Monroe, and Frank Sinatra. Though Clarence does not imitate anyone, the spirit of the song will remind one of it's origin. |
