Noriko Kamo Noriko was born and raised in Japan. She was instructed in classical piano by her mother, who is a well known piano teacher. She was also influenced musically by her father who was a guitarist.   Noriko studied jazz and music theory at the Yamaha Jazz School in Tokyo. She also holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and American Literature from Meijigakuin University.   Noriko started her career in Japan and performed there for 10 years. Playing with Art Blakey in 1985 motivated her to move to New York City in 1986. She has worked with Sahib Shihab, Benny Powell, Etta Jones, Vernel Fournier, Joe Dukes, Roger Humphries, Idris Muhammad, Louis Hayes, Joe Chambers, Eddie Gladden, Freddie Hubbard, Calvin Hill ,Roy Ayers, Stanley Jordan, John Abercrombie, Bobby Watson, Rene Maclean, Richie Cole, Grechan Moncur III, Frank Lacy, The Manhattans, Joe Frazier, and many others. Every holiday season, Noriko has been performing at the Empire State Building.   Also, she is known as the house pianist, organist, and vocalist at The Cotton Club since 1999. She has been playing gospel music for many years, and her church in Harlem has given her the title of "Minister of Music".
