Duffy Jackson
Duffy (*1953 in Freeport, NY) was a jazz drummer and multi-instrumentalist (bass, vibes, organ, piano, and vocals). He first played drums in his father's band and in 1967 with Flip Phillips in Florida. He then played in the orchestra of the musical Hair and in 1971 was in Los Angeles with the quintet of Milt Jackson and Ray Brown. In 1973, he toured Japan with Benny Carter.
 
He also played with Kai Winding, Woody Herman, and recorded with Monty Alexander, Cleveland Eaton, Ira Sullivan, Johnny Stitt, Dany Doriz, Harry Allen, Phil Flanigan, Turk Mauro, and The Manhattan Transfer. In 1974/75 he was in Sammy Davis's backing orchestra. He played with the Count Basie Orchestra (Kansas City Shout), Illinois Jacquet, Lionel Hampton, The Wolverines Jazz Band of Bern, and in 2016 with Bob Merrill, accompanying Lena Horne and Ella Fitzgerald. In 1994 he recorded the big band album Swing! Swing! Swing! for Milestone Records, with the participation of musicians such as Joe Cohn and Jay Leonhart. Duffy died in 2021.
