Steve's first contact with the Hammond was when the church he attended had a new A-100 delivered in 1967 - he immediately fell in love with the Hammond sound. In 1972, aged 12, Steve won a scholarship to the famous Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, which provided a wonderful foundation for his future career. Since leaving Chetham's 22 years ago, Steve has worked as a professional performer, and has made numerous broadcasts on Hammond and on piano, as well as working as an arranger/composer and lecturer. In more recent years, he has taught classical and jazz piano at Salford University. Although the Hammond is his first love, Steve's generally widespread tastes in music make him equally at home as a jazz organist/pianist and classical recitalist.
