Adam Wakeman
Adam (* 1974) was born into a musical family as the son of long-term Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman. He started playing classical piano at the age of eight. He cites Dr. John, Monty Alexander, Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater and Mark Kelly of Marillion as influences, with the solo from Marillion's "Incommunicado" one of the first he learned to play as a child. By the age of seventeen he had obtained grade eight from the ABRSM and had recorded the first album with his father. Father and son toured extensively, the two of them sitting at grand pianos to full scale rock performances with orchestra and choir. At the age of 24, Adam won the Keyboard Magazine Best New Talent award and promptly started a session career of his own in London.
In the mid-1990s, Wakeman formed Jeronimo Road with Fraser Thorneycroft-Smith. An album, Live at the Orange, was released after the band broke up on the Explore Multimedia label. In 2000 and 2001, he toured with his father's old band the Strawbs. In 2006, he put together the progressive rock band Headspace. They released their debut concept album I Am Anonymous worldwide on 22 May 2012. He recorded several albums with his father, as Wakeman with Wakeman, as Rick Wakeman and Adam Wakeman and he also participated on three solo albums of Rick. He also participated in Wakeman's tours from 1992. The 2010 release, Scream, from Ozzy Osbourne featured five songs co-written by Adam Wakeman. With over 200 pieces of music composed for several production music libraries, Wakeman started www.theperfectmusiclibrary.com in 2010 representing and creating music for film, television and media. As director of the company, he has placed music across most major TV networks including the BBC, ITV and Sky. In 2011, Adam joined with original Whitesnake members Micky Moody and Neil Murray, Laurie Wisefield (Wishbone Ash), Harry James (Thunder, Magnum), and Chris Ousey (Heartland) to form the band Snakecharmer. In November 2012, Adam rejoined the Strawbs on tour and again in 2015. In 2020, Adam joined Martin Barre for his Latin-American tour. In the same year, Adam released an album under the moniker Jazz Sabbath, on which he is credited as Milton Keanes (piano) and Leighton B'zard (organ). The story behind Jazz Sabbath is such interesting that an excerpt from the website www.jazzsabbath.net is cited as follows: Jazz Sabbath were considered by many to be at the forefront of the new UK jazz movement in the late Sixties. They were recording two albums in 1969, but both seemed destined never to be released. Until now. Due to legal disputes with a session player the recording of the second album had to be abandoned and never to be mentioned again. Their first album was finished, but when news broke that band leader Milton Keanes had suffered a massive heart attack and was hospitalised, the record label cancelled the release. They didn't want to risk releasing an album from a band that might lose its musical leader. When Milton was finally released from hospital in September 1970, he found out that a band from Birmingham, had since released two albums containing metal versions of his songs. Milton tried to contact his record label, only to find out it didn't exist anymore and the label owner was in jail. All recalled Jazz Sabbath albums had been destroyed when the warehouse burned down in June 1970; which turned out to be a case of insurance fraud by the label owner. Without any physical proof that he wrote the songs, Milton was powerless to do anything. Even more frustrating: that Birmingham band had named itself after one of his songs; only adding insult to injury. With the other band continuously releasing more albums of Milton's songs, the three members of Jazz Sabbath decided to part ways. The discovery of the debut album's master tapes in 2019 and the following re-release of the album in 2020 has changed everything. With the theft by the band from Birmingham exposed, Jazz Sabbath have reunited and finally finished recording their second album. from Wikipedia and Jazz Sabbath |
