Gero Körner
Gero Körner feels at home on all keyboard instruments. Apart from his love for the piano, he can be heard and seen
on records and stages with a vast array of new and old keyboards and synthesizers playing just about every possible
style of music. Gero can be heard also on the pipe organ.
Besides being influenced by such great jazz pianists as Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson etc, his playing is also inspired by classical music to a large extent. In his improvisations, he blends blues-fuelled elements with lyrical sounds reminiscent of Sergej Prokofjeff or Eric Satie. As a border crosser between jazz, rock, electronica and classical music, he can be all but labelled a jazz purist. Rather, his playing is characterised by a musical language that draws from various different influences and combines them in a new context. After taking up the piano at age five, Gero studied jazz piano at the Music College in Köln/Germany while receiving classical piano-training at the same time. Since then, he has toured and recorded with such artists as Ina Deter, Wonderwall, Gunter Hampel, Herbibert Leuchter and Christoph Titz. He also is a member of the progressive rock band Rufus Zuphall since its reunion in 1999 and played keyboards in various theatre and musical productions, currently in Saturday Night Fever . In addition to his activities as sideman he also leads his own projects: With his piano trio, the Gero Körner Trio, he delights with mellifluous swing jazz, while his project Truth celebrates danceable Hammond Soul together with the Afro-American singer Soleil Niklasson. |
